iMovie to Media 100sw DV Workflow
OK. We all know that Firewire support for the Media 100 software has come.
But some people haven't updated their software to Media 100 Producer yet, so we'd better find a workaround to get DV into Media 100.
All you need is a copy of iMovie HD. This should work with any copy of iMovie, maybe with minor changes.
iMovie
i) Open iMovie and create a new project. Set this to DV and either NTSC (USA & Japan) or PAL (Europe, Brazil and the rest - you know who you are!)
ii) Import the media from tape (digitize / acquire / ingest - whatever you want to call it)
iii) Save and quit iMovie.
Finder
i) Find the iMovie project file that you just made.
ii) Context click (right-click / Ctrl-click) and "Show Package Contents"
iii) Open Media folder
iv) Drag the movie clips out to your Media 100 media folder
Media 100sw
i) Open Media 100 sw (or iHD or V11) and create a new project
ii) Check the Media Settings are set to DV Best Quality
iii) Import the movie clips from your media folder (Note: This will take a short while to update your media files and create a seperate audio file)
iv) EDIT! (If you need help on this then check the links on the left and above!)
v) Export From Edit Suite. Set the output file to DV Stream - Lower field first. Also click on Options and check that it is set correctly to PAL / NTSC.
vi) Click OK. Force Render if you have any titles / effects that you want to carry over
vii) Save and quit Media 100
Finder
i) Move the movie you just exported into your iMovie media folder (you didn't close it, did you?)
iMovie
i) Open iMovie. It will tell you some clips are missing. Either Ignore All or hit OK.
ii) It will then tell you that a clip is in the trash. Open the trash and move the clip to the bin or timeline.
iii) Master back to tape (Share File)
And that's it. That's how you get DV into Media 100 and master DV back out.
